The founding of the TTU Nanophotonics Center would not have been possible without the support of Mr. Ed Whitacre and the AT & T Foundation. Contact Information: Dr. Hongxing Jiang, Ed Whitacre Endowed Chair and Horn Professor. Tel: (806) 834-5739. Nanophotonics. Nanophotonics research in the TTU Nano Tech Center is primarily concerned with materials growth and device fabrication of AlGaN semiconductors. Spanning a wavelength range from 364 to 200 nm, these materials may be used to produce deep ultraviolet light emitting diodes and solar blind detectors.
Speaker: Dr. Chase T. Ellis (Electronics Science and Technology Division, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory) Title: Low-Loss Nanophotonics in the mid- and long-wave infrared Abstract: The high optical losses of metal-based plasmonic materials in the infrared have driven an extensive search for alternative lower-loss materials that can support plasmonic effects, such as sub-diffraction confinement of optical fields. The Nanophotonics Department at Texas Tech University on Academia.edu Jiang and Lin came to Texas Tech in 2008 to establish the Nanophotonics Center, and research solid-state lighting technology and devices that emit both visible and ultraviolet light. Because their research focuses on nano-scale materials, there is a potential to create smaller, more cost-effective and more energy-efficient lighting sources and technologies.
